Khopra Ridge Trek

Khopra Ridge Trek is a beautiful alternative trek in the Annapurna region, perfect for those looking for quieter trails, traditional village life, and stunning mountain views without the heavy crowds of the popular routes. It is also known as Khopra Danda Trek and is often considered a less-traveled gem compared to Poon Hill or Annapurna Base Camp.

The trek starts from Nayapul or Ghandruk, passing through charming Gurung and Magar villages, terraced fields, and peaceful rhododendron forests. As the trail climbs higher, the scenery opens up with breathtaking views of Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Tukuche Peak.

A highlight of the trek is reaching Khopra Ridge (3,660m), where a community lodge sits on a high open ridge overlooking a massive mountain panorama. From here, trekkers can also take a day hike to Khayar Lake (4,650m), a sacred alpine lake believed to be holy by locals. The lake hike is optional but highly rewarding for those who want a bit more challenge.

Unlike other routes, Khopra Ridge uses community-managed lodges, which means your stay directly supports local development. The trail is peaceful, with fewer trekkers, providing a more authentic and relaxed trekking experience.

This trek is suitable for beginners with a moderate fitness level and is a perfect choice for those who want a mix of culture, nature, and mountain scenery without going too high or using technical routes.
